025.09 Kirktown of Mortlach is considered to be of very ancient date and is supposed to have existed in the 11th century it was the only village in the parish until about 1817. when the village of Dufftown was commenced annual markets and all public buildings were held at it until about 30 years ago when they were removed to Dufftown it being found to be more suitable It now consists of the parish church, manse and a few ordinary dwelling houses. The Earl of Fife is Superior.
