E106/2/5/43A SCHEME OF ALLOCATION between and among the Trustees of His GRACE THE DUKE OF FIFE K.G., [Knight of the Garter] K.T., [Knight of the Thistle] and purchasers from him or their Successors, of the Old Valued Rent of the portions of the Fife Estates lying in the Parish of King Edward and County of Aberdeen. January 1913 The Valued Rents of the following lands in the Parish of King Edward formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife, are as follows:- The lands of Gairnieston, Fishery, Montcoffer, and others -- £1983.6.8 The lands of Meikle and Little Gorrachies -- £61.0.0 [Total] -- £2044.6.8 The above sums are allocated below in the same proportions as the Stipend formerly payable by His Grace previous to the commencement of the land sales was allocated in the State of Teinds prepared by Mr. H. Inglis Lindsay W. S. [Writer to the Signet] in 1903, and the scheme of Locality which followed upon it. An allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with the principle, but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And as the allocation of the Stipend was made on the basis of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis, though not directly. [Page] 43A

E106/2/5/49B Ph [Parish] of Logie Durno Copy/ File 270 Letter of 16th October 1925 from Messers Lumsden and Davidson to Crown Receiver, Dear Sir, Casualties & Redemption - County of Aberdeen Lands of Pitcaple and others We refer to our letter of yesterday with regard to which we think we can give you fuller information, our attention having been drawn to certain particulars available through our dealing with the case of Conglas about which you wrote a seperate letter. While our client's grandfather acquired the lands of Pitscurrie from Sir James Elphinstone of Logie and we have no prior titles to refer to as they would be with the Logie Writs, we find reference to Pitscurrie having been part of Mr Erskine's estate and contrary to what we had supposed. We find that the lands of Balhaggarty had also at one time belonged to the Erskines. This reconsiles the figure appearing in your valued rent roll Henry Knight Erskine, Pittodry -- £891.3.0 The entry in our roll of 1850 for the lands of Pittodrie under the name of Major H. K. Erskine was -- £565.3.2 This leaves a balance to be accounted for of -- £325.19.10 This is evidently made up by the entry of Balhaggarty in name of James Gordon (of Manar) -- £234.19.10 and Pitscurrie in the name of Hugh Lumsden (of Pitcaple) -- £91.0.0 We should perhaps not that the above entry for Pittodry £565.3.2 although not, we understand, formally split and so recorded on the valued rent roll, has been by agreement allocated £424.3.2 to the lands of Pittodry retained by the Trustees of the late Captain George Smith, and £141.0.0 to the lands of Crowmallie conveyed to Mr R. W. Smith M.P. yours faithfully, [Page] 47B

April 1913 The Valued Rents of the lands in the Parish of Montquhitter formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife and Mr Hannay are as follows:- The Duke of Fife -- £147.8.4 Mr. Hannay, -- £169.3.0 [Total] -- £316.11.4 There have been several excambions executed between the Duke of Fife and Mr. Hannay, and large portions have been sold by each. The above sums are allocated below in the same proportions as the Stipends which were payable by His Grace and Mr. Hannay previous to the commencement of the land sales were allocated in the State of Teinds prepared by Mr. Thomas Henderson, W.S. [Writer to the Signet], in 1903 and in the Scheme of Locality which followed upon it. An Allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle, but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And as the Allocation of the Stipend was made on the basis of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis though not directly [Amendments] 8 [Added] -- Senr [Senior] Greystone 9 [Added] -- Netherton 10 [Added] -- Castle of Auchry 11 [Added] -- Wester Badentyrie 12 [Added] -- Easter Badentyrie 13 [Added] -- of Peterburg 15 [Added] -- Greystone 16 [Added] -- Woodside 17 [Scored out] -- Trustees of Mrs Jane Sangster 18 [Added] -- West Litterty 19 [Added] -- Hillhead 21 [Added] -- Rowanhill 22 [Added] -- Corner Cuminestown [Page] 59A

E106/2/5/81A SCHEME OF ALLOCATION between and among the Trustees of HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF FIFE., K.G., [Knight of the Garter] K.T., [Knight of the Thistle] and purchasers from His Grace, or their Successors, of the Old Valued Rent of the portions of the Fife Estates lying in the Parish of Turriff and County of Aberdeen. January 1913 The valued Rent remaining unallocated of the whole lands in the Parish of Turriff formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife is £1303.9.3 Scots, of which there is rated on the lands of Fintray £331.14.5 Scots, and the balance of £971.14.10. Scots on the remaining lands. These sums are allocated below in the same proportions as the Stipend formerly payable by His Grace previous to the commencement of the land sales was allocated in the State of Teinds prepared by Mr W. M. McLachlan, W.S., [Writer to the Signet] in 1899, and in the Scheme of Locality which followed upon it. An allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle; but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And, as the Allocation of the Stipend was made on the basis of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis though not directly.
