The Additional Duty on Carriage and Saddle Horse Tax, per 37 Geo. III. Cap. 134. in the Shire
of Selkirk from the 5 of July 1797 to the 5 of April 1798.

20 Horses @ Sh. [Shillings] £0.3.9 Each is £3.15.0
£3.15.0 @ 20 per Cent is £0.15.0
Sum Total £4.10.0

I William Brunton Surveyor aforesaid do hereby certify that upon carefull
examination of the forging duties I find they amount to the Sum of Four pound
Ten shillings and that upon the [ ] day of [ ] I delivered to John
Scott Collector of said duties for the Shire aforesaid an exact duplicate of the above
duly compared which contained my Oath that the preceeding inhabitants were
duly served with Requisitions of the dates foresaid desiring them within fourteen
days to deliver or cause to be delivered to me upon calling for that purpose
An Attested list of all the Carriage and Saddle Horses used and employed
by them from the 5 of July 1797 to the 5 of April 1798 as well as an account of
what Horses they might use and employ any where Else and that the forgoing
report was made up from their Several lists or Returns to me from the best infor
mation I could procure or from my own knowledge of their Respective Establishments.
